The Ann Arbor Area Convention and Visitors Bureau officially announced the launch of its new mobile Web site, http://mobile.annarbor.org, a portable 'electronic guide' to the entire Washtenaw County area. The new site allows Washtenaw County's 4 million annual visitors to access a comprehensive list of area restaurants, galleries, museums, events, and more from their mobile device. The launch of this new technology comes on the heels of a recent study on leisure travel commissioned by the CVB that highlighted the importance of electronic marketing in researching a destination for leisure travel. "While we began this initiative before the results of this study were available, I think this substantiates the direction in which we're heading. The overwhelming majority of consumers are turning to the Web for information, and we want to make sure we're serving them in the best way possible," said CVB president and CEO Mary Kerr. The CVB mobile application will allow users to direct dial, and send direct email (when available) from their handheld device. In addition, the CVB has integrated Google mapping technology with its listings so that users can generate a customized map to find a particular point of interest."This technology is exciting because of its broad appeal," said Kerr. "Whether you're a leisure or business traveler plotting a map to an area hotel, a student looking for a restaurant, or a local resident looking up the start time of an event, this application can do it all."
