Amtrak, Lyft Partnership Promises 'End-to-End' Travel Experience

A new partnership between national rail provider Amtrak and ridesharing service Lyft will create a "seamless end-to-end travel experience from your doorstep to an Amtrak station," the companies announced last week.

According to Lyft, rides to transit stations are among its most popular routes, making up 25 percent of rides in Chicago alone. Its partnership with Amtrak means that travelers can now request a Lyft ride directly from Amtrak's mobile app.

"We are focused on improving the customer experience, and this is one way we are working to make your entire journey as seamless and enjoyable as possible," said Jason Molfetas, executive vice president for marketing and business development at Amtrak.

Although details aren't yet available, the companies suggested that their collaboration ultimately will expand beyond app integration. In the meantime, Lyft is celebrating its new relationship with Amtrak by offering new users $5 off each of their first four Lyft rides when they use the promo code AMTRAKLYFT.

Lyft currently operates in more than 360 communities across the United States, covering 80 percent of the U.S. population and reaching 97 percent of Amtrak riders.
