Effective yesterday, American Airlines has discontinued its group discount program and disbanded its Group & Meeting Travel sales team, according to industry reports. The move is part of the carrier’s post-merger efforts at integrating the programs, policies and procedures of American and US Airways.
According to American, the airline will continue to honor current discount agreements. However, no changes to existing contracts — including changes to sites or dates — will be permitted.
Groups booking travel on American rather than US Airways flights may continue to take advantage of zone fare agreements for groups of 10 or more passengers traveling from different origins to a common destination, and both American and US Airways will continue to offer space agreements for groups traveling together.
Going forward, the company’s Revenue Management department will manage group travel.
