Ambassadors to Buy Windstar Cruise Line

Newport Beach, CA -- Ambassadors International, which operates a meetings-management business, has agreed to acquire Windstar Cruises from Holland America Line.

Windstar's motor-sail ships cruise the Mediterranean during the spring, summer, and fall; and the Caribbean and Costa Rica in winter. The fleet consists of the 312-passenger Wind Surf, and the 148-passenger twins Wind Star and Wind Spirit.

"The acquisition of Windstar Cruises completes another step in our growth plan to become a leader in the luxury, small ship cruise market," said Joe Ueberroth, chairman and chief executive of Ambassadors.

Ambassadors also operates Majestic America Line, whose fleet of seven ships cruises rivers and coastal waters of the United States.

The Windstar transaction, for an undisclosed sum, is expected to close next month. Holland America Line is a subsidiary of Carnival Corp., the world's largest cruise operator.
