ACOM Honors Founder William Just With Memorial Award

In recognition of its founder, William Just, who died in December, the Association for Convention Operations Management (ACOM) has established the Annual William H. Just CAE, CMP Memorial Award, it announced this week.

The award, which was developed in honor of Just's role in helping to launch the Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) program, includes complimentary attendance to the ACOM Annual Conference and will be presented every year to one ACOM member who has recently received his or her CMP certification.

"ACOM feels that this award in Bill's memory will forever commemorate the way he elevated the importance of education in the meetings industry," 2009 ACOM President Lyan Tassler said in a statement.

Just founded ACOM in 1988 in order to serve the professional interests of convention services managers (CSMs), who work with association and corporate meeting planners on behalf of hotels, convention center and CVBs in order to produce conventions, meetings, tradeshows and other events.

ACOM expects to release additional information about the Annual William H. Just CAE, CMP Memorial Award, including details on award nominations, later this year.
