Like CVBs, hotel properties are also partnering with charitable organizations to help meeting attendees find ways to volunteer while in town. The Chattanoogan (www.chattanooganhotel.com), in Chattanooga, TN, recently partnered with the United Way’s Volunteer Center to offer philanthropic teambuilding experiences for groups meeting at the hotel. Groups can choose from activities ranging from building homes and playgrounds to helping promote children’s literacy; the hotel then works with the United Way’s Volunteer Center to match them with well-regarded charitable organizations such as the American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Urban League. In Victoria, BC, the Hotel Grand Pacific (www.hotelgrandpacific.com) has teamed up with Extreme Kindness, a locally-based organization that promotes, well, kindness. Through the partnership, the hotel offers what’s called a “kindness injection,” which consists of an introductory presentation followed by an excursion into the community, where attendees can engage in a variety of benevolent activities. Possibilities range from community-service work such as neighborhood beautification and meal service to teambuilding activities such as a Kindness Marathon (where participants chart a route through the community doing good works along the way) and a Kindness Scavenger Hunt (where participants document acts of kindness on film).
