W Hotels Unveils Sheets Made of Recycled Plastic Bottles

Sleeping at a W hotel is about to feel good not only physically, but also socially, thanks to a new partnership between W Hotels Worldwide, rapper will.i.am and The Coca-Cola Company, who are teaming up to outfit W guest rooms with new EKOCYCLE-brand bed sheets.

Rolling out at W Hotels in North America first, with global properties to follow, EKOCYCLE sheets are made in part with rPET, which is polyester made out of recycled plastic bottles. Specifically, each king-size EKOCYCLE sheet set utilizes 31 recycled 20-oz. plastic bottles. Across W's North American portfolio, that will equate to more than 268,000 plastic bottles diverted from landfills.

In addition to beds, W Hotels and EKOCYCLE also are making bedside tables more environmentally friendly by introducing to W guest rooms a new "Mobile Charger and Accessory Valet" (MCAV) -- featuring a USB charging station, jewelry/watch stand, and alarm clock -- likewise made out of recycled plastic bottles. Each MCAV utilizes three recycled plastic bottles.

"W guests want to live a stylish, more sustainable lifestyle and this partnership is a way to allow them to do so when they are on the road," Sarah Doyle, global brand director of W Hotels Worldwide, said in a statement. "Working with will.i.am and Coca-Cola's EKOCYCLE brand allows us to 'change' our sheets, reset our alarm clocks, and pledge to make a difference one W Hotel stay at a time."
