W Hotels Plans Second Property in Thailand's City of Angels

Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide announced a new development in Bangkok. Slated to open in 2011, the 400-room hotel will be the second W Hotel in Thailand. With 30,000 sf of meeting space, the new property will be part of a Golden Land’s “Sathorn Square,” mixed-development complex at the core of city’s commercial and diplomatic center and within walking distance of 20 embassies. “Sathorn Square” includes 750,000 sf of premium office tower and retail shops centered on the Russian Embassy complex.

“Following the announcement of W Retreat & Residences-Koh Samui, W Bangkok is a logical extension of W’s dynamic growth in Thailand,” said Miguel Ko, president for Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Asia Pacific. “Bangkok is a perfect for W Hotels, appealing to the brand’s sophisticated travelers with a delectable mix of diverse cultures, world-class shopping, and an unsurpassed epicurean experience.”

Moving forward, W will open hotels in Barcelona, Istanbul, Athens, Hong Kong, Shanghai; Santiago, Chile; Dubai, United Arab Emirates; Doha, Qatar, and Macau.

As a major port of entry to Asia Pacific, Bangkok receives 90 percent of the people who visit Thailand.
