Atlantic City started 2014 with 12 casinos--a number that is now down to eight. Trump Plaza Hotel & Casino closed yesterday, following the closings of the 1,300-room Showboat Atlantic City and the 1,898-room Revel, Atlantic City's newest resort.
The Trump Plaza had 906 guest rooms, a spa, an 8,600-square-foot casino, and a popular beach bar.
Although his name may be on the newly closed casino, Donald Trump does not run Trump Entertainment Resorts, but does have a 10 percent stake in the company. On Tuesday morning, Trump tweeted that he left Atlantic City years ago.
Atlantic City, a tourist destination since 1870, is facing fierce competition. The city has been losing ground in gaming revenue to neighboring states.
