Starwood Showcases Guest Photos on Instagram

Thanks to social media, meeting planners can preview potential venues without actually visiting them. Case in point: Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, which announced last month that it has completed a company-wide integration of Instagram, encompassing all hotel websites across each of its nine brands, including St. Regis, The Luxury Collection, W, Westin, Le Méridien, Sheraton, Four Points by Sheraton, Aloft and Element.

According to Starwood — which claims to be among the first hoteliers in the industry to feature Instagram on all property websites — guests at its 1,169 properties share an average of 40,000 geo-tagged images per month on Instagram. Starwood showcases those images in new “Guest Galleries from Instagram,” which the company says serve as a “visual seal of approval direct from Starwood’s discerning, digitally-savvy guests.”

“A ‘picture is worth a thousand words’ and a picture shared is worth even more to our guests,” Chris Holdren, senior vice president, Starwood Preferred Guest & Digital, said in a statement. “Starwood’s mobile bookings are growing five times faster than the annual growth rate of the web channel 10 years ago. With an increasingly mobile, digital traveler we expect social sharing in places like our Instagram Guest Gallery pages will continue to change how our guests book travel and explore and interact with our hotels.”
