Sol Meliá, Spain’s leading hotel chain, has changed its name to Meliá Hotels International. Gabriel Escarrer, the company’s chief executive officer and vice chairman, unveiled the new corporate name on June 3rd at the Madrid Stock Exchange by ringing the bell on the first day of trading for the new Meliá Hotels International.
With its new name, the hotel company has defined a new Strategic Plan for the 2012-2014 period with a clear focus on globalization, the development of its hotel management capacity, and its commitment to sustainability.
Currently, Meliá Hotels International has more than 350 hotels and 87,000 rooms in 35 countries on four continents. In addition to the new name and strategic plan, the company introduced “Opportunity Dates,” a new groups, conventions, and incentives search engine that offers a calendar with the best available rates marked in orange.
