San Diego -- Construction has begun on a 250-room Sheraton resort located on the coast 35 miles north of here and adjacent to the Legoland theme park.
The Sheraton Carlsbad Resort, in the city of Carlsbad, is scheduled to open in late 2007 with 25,000 square feet of meeting space. Another 100 guest rooms are planned for subsequent phases.
All guest rooms will feature an expansive work area; wireless, high-speed Internet connectivity; a 32-inch, flat-panel television; and Sheraton's plush, Sweet Sleeper Bed.
The resort will also contain tennis courts, a fitness center, and a health spa with eight private treatment rooms. In addition, the city is building an 18-hole golf course next to the resort.
Grand Pacific Resorts, of Carlsbad, will own and manage the property as a Sheraton franchisee. Sheraton is an upscale brand of Starwood Hotels & Resorts, of White Plains, NY.
