Enjoying a new cachet in the wake of the breakout hit FOX TV show, The O.C., the real Orange County has long been famous for its gorgeous coast. Two coastal meetings resorts are slated to wrap up substantial make-overs by next fall. A $60-million renovation at the 582-room Newport Beach Marriott Hotel & Spa will rebuild its guest rooms, featuring 20 luxury suites with ocean views; renovate the more than 23,000 sf of meeting space; and add a 14,000-sf European spa. A $40-million renovation at the 393-room Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel will give guest rooms and the majority of its public space "a dramatic, stylish, and elegant new look" more connected to the sea. Included will be an ocean-view restaurant that will have a private dining room; a new pool-view event space with 3,200 sf of indoor and 2,700 sf of outdoor terrace space; as well as a spa and a two-story oceanfront fitness center with a rooftop observation deck. For the adventurous, the 517-room Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort & Spa has partnered with local surfers "Toes on the Nose" to provide the quintessential beach experience—a surf party.
