Los Angeles -- Developers of a massive sports and entertainment complex here today announced a deal with Marriott International to build a headquarters hotel for the convention center.
The 876-room hotel, to be named the Los Angeles Marriott Marquis, is scheduled to open in 2010. It will include the largest ballroom in Los Angeles, with seating for 3,000 people.
A 124-room Ritz-Carlton Hotel, Marriott's luxury brand, is also part of the project. Both hotels will be housed in a 54-story tower along with 216 luxury condominiums. Marriott will manage both hotels.
Developers of the downtown complex are KB Urban and AEG. Now under construction, the complex will also include a 7,100-seat theater, an 800-seat theater, a 15-screen movie theater and numerous shops and restaurants. The project is adjacent to the existing Staples Center arena and the Los Angeles Convention Center.
