Marriott International's hotels aren't just good places to sleep and meet. If you're a woman, especially, they're also good places to work, according to Fortune magazine and research and consulting firm Great Place to Work, which have recognized Marriott as one of their "100 Best Workplaces for Women," Marriott announced yesterday.
Great Places to Work and Fortune compiled their list based on surveys of female employees at Great Place to Work-certified companies and their assessments of open communications with management, opportunities for career development, and support for managing work and personal lives. The companies also took into account the representation of women in management and executive positions, as well as the workforce overall.
At Marriott, women comprise 55 percent of the company's U.S. workforce and hold several of the most senior positions in the company, including: president and managing director, Europe; chief financial officer; global chief marketing and commercial officer; global chief communications and public affairs officer; and general manager at some of the company's largest hotels. Additionally, 41 percent of the company's executive officers are women, and four of the 11 members of Marriott's global board of directors are women.
Among the programs helping women advance at Marriott are an Emerging Leader Program, Talent Network Teams, Diversity & Inclusion Councils, women's networking groups, and benefits such as paid maternity and parental leaves, adoption assistance, infertility coverage, new parent coaching, tuition reimbursement, and workplace and scheduling flexibility options.
"We are proud of the contributions women have made to Marriott's success and this recognition from Great Place to Work and Fortune," said David Rodriguez, Marriott's executive vice president and global chief human resources officer. "Our culture of Putting People First is the cornerstone of our women's advancement initiatives. It's at the core of everything we do, as we embrace what makes each associate unique and provide tremendous opportunity for career growth and personal fulfillment."
