Las Vegas Hospitality Workers Authorize Strike

Las Vegas -- Members of two unions that represent 10,000 workers at 14 hotels here have overwhelmingly authorized their leaders to call an immediate strike if labor contract talks fail.

The Las Vegas Hilton and the Tropicana -- both meetings venues -- are among the properties involved in the dispute over issues that include health and pension benefits as well as job security. The other hotels are mostly located downtown.

Culinary Local 226 and Bartenders Local 165 represent cooks, bartenders, catering staff, porters, housekeepers, and other service workers. The workers on Wednesday voted 99 percent to authorize the strike.
