European Green: Movenpick Resorts Go All Out for the Environment

All 21 Movenpick Hotels and Resorts throughout Europe have achieved Green Globe certification. To do so, each property had to provide detailed proof of 
environmental, social, and employer-related sustainable practices across more than 300 criteria, of which 100 were mandatory.

All of the company’s Middle Eastern hotels have achieved Green Globe certification, and work to conform is being rolled out across all properties in Africa and Asia, with 66 percent of them already certified.

While working toward certification, Movenpick Hotels and Resorts also aimed to encourage employees to learn more about environmental issues and use that knowledge at work and home. The company developed its own e-learning tool kit that all employees can access online. All European employees spent a total of 10,000 hours in training, and each property established a team to liaise with Green Globe to identify, analyze, and implement opportunities to improve sustainability. 

Movenpick Hotels and Resorts had previously introduced other sustainability initiatives, such as biodegradable pens, wooden key cards, eco-friendly bathroom amenities, and fair-trade coffee, as well as ensuring that, where possible, food is sourced locally and from organic farms.
