Cvent Names Top 100 Meeting Hotels in the United States in 2013

Meetings technology company Cvent has released its second annual list of the top 100 hotels for meetings in the United States, it announced yesterday.

Based on activity on the Cvent Supplier Network, the company’s online marketplace of meeting venues, the list includes numerous independent properties, but is dominated by the nation’s three largest hotel groups — Marriott, which has 19 properties on the list; Hyatt, which has 18 properties on the list; and Hilton, which has 17 properties on the list.

All told, the list includes venues from 17 states and the District of Columbia. As it did last year, Florida has the most hotels on this year’s list, although its lead over other states has narrowed; this year, 15 hotels are in Florida, compared to 19 last year. Likewise, Nevada and Texas have gone from 14 and 13 properties, respectively, to 11 and 12 properties. California now has the second largest number of hotels on the list, with 13, followed by Illinois, with nine.

“The hotel industry is extremely competitive and this list highlights those hotels that have successfully designed the most appealing meetings spaces and attractive offers for planners,” Bharet Malhotra, senior vice president of sales for the Cvent Supplier Network, said in a statement. “Interestingly, the list shows less concentration in major convention cities like Orlando and Las Vegas than we have seen in the past. While those markets are still well represented, this change speaks to the opportunity hotels have to win business away from those cities, as well as the importance of developing a proactive and aggressive marketing strategy for traditional meeting destinations.”

Among the top 100, the top 10 were:

1. Hyatt Regency Chicago (Chicago)
2. Hyatt Regency Orlando (Orlando)
3. The Venetian and Palazzo Resort, Hotel & Casinos (Las Vegas)
4. ARIA Resort & Casino (Las Vegas)
5. Hyatt Regency Atlanta (Atlanta)
6. Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center (Nashville)
7. Hilton Anatole (Dallas)
8. Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center (Grapevine, Texas)
9. The Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa (Hollywood, Fla.)
10. Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile (Chicago)

This year’s top hotel — the 2,019-room Hyatt Regency Chicago — was a dark horse: It jumped 55 places in this year’s rankings to become the country’s No. 1 meetings property. Last year’s top property was The Peabody Orlando.
