Carlson Rezidor Celebrates Earth Day Anniversary of Carbon Footprint Initiative

Club Carlson, the global hotel rewards program of Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, is celebrating Earth Day by marking the one-year anniversary of its carbon footprint initiative. Known as Meetings Minus Carbon, the hotel loyalty program aims to offset the estimated carbon footprint for all worldwide Club Carlson for Planners events. It is the first hotel loyalty program to do so.

In its first year the program has purchased enough carbon credits to offset 12,000 tons of carbon dioxide used by five Carlson brands and 1,000 of their hotels. The carbon offset is accomplished through two projects: the 5 Megawatt Wind Mill project, which provides renewable green power generation from wind mills in Tamil Nadu, India, and a tree-planting initiative in the Great Rift Valley in Kenya.

“Meetings Minus Carbon is an innovative and unique service of Club Carlson and we are pleased to be the first hotel loyalty program to offer carbon offsetting to our planners,” said Rachael Marret, senior vice president Customer Engagement, Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group. “In addition to Club Carlson for Planners members, our individual members also have the opportunity to redeem Gold Points to offset the carbon of their personal travel and support the wind farms in India and the tree-planting in Kenya."
