Since 2004 this brewery has served up creative concoctions like Diesel, a hybrid stout and IPA, to Brooklyn hipsters and tourists alike.
2. Fullsteam, Durham, NC
This Carolina institution is known for its "apothecar" brews, which incorporate heirloom grains, locally farmed goods, and even botanicals!
3. Linden Street Brewery, Oakland, CA
This Bay Area brewery, specializes in “Old California Style” lagers that hearken back to the days before Prohibition.
4. Hopworks Urban Brewery, Portland, OR
Sustainability is the order of the day at Hopworks Urban Brewery, known locally as HOP.
5. Dogfish Head Craft Brewed Ales, Milton, DE
Dogfish's unusual brews -- Chicory Stout and St. John's Wort are two examples -- are popular throughout the country.
6. Flying Fish Brewing Company, Cherry Hill, NJ
This brewery is arguably one of the best institutions straight off the New Jersey turnpike. Citrus lovers shouldn't miss the hoppy American Wheat brew.
7. Half Moon Bay Brewing Company, Half Moon Bay, CA
This brewery's perennially popular Bootlegger's Brown Ale and Maverick's Amber Ale are both named for the area's annual surfing competition.
8. Bell's Brewing, Inc., Kalamazoo, MI
Bell's is Michigan's quintessential beer. Don't miss the Oberon brew, which is perfect for any summer celebration.
9. Austin Beerworks, Austin, TX
This relatively new player -- the brewery opened in 2011 -- produces its beers in cans. Turns out, cans both protect the beer and benefit the environment.
10. Falls City Beer, Louisville, KY
This brewery dates back to 1905, but master brewer David Easterling has upped the ante by specializing in 1930s-style English pale ale.
