Construction has officially commenced on a new $18 million convention center hotel in Texarkana, Ark., the Associated Press reported last week.
Expected to be complete in approximately nine months, the project will have several smaller meeting rooms, convention space for up to 1,000 attendees, and an attached Holiday Inn hotel with 127 guest rooms and a full-service restaurant.
The Arkansas-side facility is the second of two convention center projects currently being built in Texarkana, which resides partly in Arkansas and partly in Texas. Work on the first project, a $22 million convention center and hotel on the city's Texas side, began last spring and is expected to conclude late in 2012. Like the Arkansas-side center, it's expected to hold about 1,000 people and will have an attached hotel: a 150-room Hilton Garden Inn.
