Work Commences on Louisiana Boardwalk Marriott

After more than a year of delays, construction has begun on a new Courtyard by Marriott hotel in Bossier City, La. The 130-room hotel will serve Louisiana Boardwalk, Bossier City's landmark retail and entertainment development, which is located in the city's casino district on the Red River, across from downtown Shreveport.

"It's a critical component to the property to actually have people stay on the property and spend the night," Ray Tromba, Louisiana Boardwalk's property manager, told Shreveport's local paper, The Times.

Louisiana Boardwalk opened in May 2005 on approximately 56 acres of land, about 7.5 acres of which are still undeveloped. The Courtyard—which will be the Boardwalk's only hotel—was announced in April 2007 and will fill up 3 of those acres, while hopefully spurring development of the remaining 4.5, according to Tromba.

While ground was broken on the project in June 2007, construction was delayed shortly thereafter when Marriott announced that it was developing a new Courtyard prototype. That prototype, recently approved by Marriott, includes new amenities, including Marriott's "Courtyard GoBoard," a 52-inch touch-screen monitor that customers can use to find local information. In addition, the hotel—which is expected to be finished and open within 10 months—features a swimming pool, workout facilities and meeting space.

"This will be one of the flagships for Courtyard by Marriott in the country," Tromba told The Times. "It's really good to have this new design because the Louisiana Boardwalk is such a fine entity; they'll really go well together."
