Westin Returns to Singapore

After a 12-year absence, the Westin brand has returned to Singapore with the opening of The Westin Singapore, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide announced yesterday.

Westin previously operated two Singapore hotels — The Westin Stamford and The Westin Plaza, now Swissôtel The Stamford and Raffles The Plaza, respectively — until its management contract expired in late 2001. Located in Marina Bay, in Singapore’s financial district, its new hotel occupies floors 32 through 46 of the new Asia Square Tower 2 commercial development, making it Singapore’s first-ever integrated hotel located inside an office building.

“We are thrilled to return to Singapore, expanding our footprint in Asia’s business and financial epicenter,” Chuck Abbott, Starwood’s regional vice president of south east Asia, said in a statement. “Backed by its distinctive positioning around well-being, The Westin Singapore will play a significant role in the transformation of the Marina Bay development, as we inject a unique and revitalizing experience into this urban oasis.”

The Westin Singapore features 305 guest rooms and approximately 4,400 square feet of meeting space, not to mention a gastro-bar, a signature restaurant, a fitness center, an infinity pool, and a spa with a whirlpool and a steam room.

“We are proud to reintroduce the Westin brand to Singapore,” said Mark Rada, project director of Asia Square. “The opening of The Westin Singapore marks a key milestone in Asia Square’s history, as well as a significant addition to the Marina Bay area ... Having The Westin Singapore located on-site demonstrates our continued commitment in providing a fully integrated development that boasts world-class business facilities, innovative and sustainable design, and a unique lifestyle concept that is unrivaled in Singapore.”
