Hearth and Hill is the brainchild of Brooks Kirchheimer, who once ran Robert Redford's Zoom Restaurant, which was formerly a Main Street staple. A seasonal, eclectic menu entices with global touches such as shumai, quesadillas, Korean fried chicken and ramen soup. In the Kimball Junction neighborhood, H&H is near Jupiter Bowl, the Swaner EcoCenter and the Utah Olympic Park.
It's January, and all the beautiful people will be descending on this slice of ski heaven for the prestigious Sundance Film Festival at the end of the month. Yet once all of the film world's best and brightest leave, the fun remains all year round.
The adventure-travel town sits at about 7,000 feet above sea level and is home to two top ski hills, Deer Valley and Park City Mountain; between them, skiers delight in more than 9,300 downhill acres. In summertime, the mountain trails become havens for hikers and mountain bikers.
Those who didn't get to catch any of the events during the 2002 Winter Olympics might have another chance, as Salt Lake City and Park City are rumored to be preparing a bid for the 2030 Games, and there's a possibility the area will be put forth for the 2026 Games, instead, if current favorites Stockholm and Milan fall through.Coming Soon
Montage International, already represented in town by the 220-room Montage Deer Valley, has announced the development of the 150-room Pendry Park City, scheduled to open in 2021. The hotel will have 7,000 square feet of meeting space, including a 4,000-square-foot ballroom.
The 46-room Lodge at Blue Sky, an Auberge Resort, will open this summer. Blue Sky is an outdoor-games destination on 3,500 acres, with hiking and biking trails, horseback-riding, fly-fishing and sporting clays when the snow is gone. In the winter, guests can go snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, heli-skiing and fat-tire biking.
Opening in November 2019 is Woodward Park City, a sports-training facility for kids and families that will also offer options for team building.Recent Additions
A $14 million project finished up in September 2018 at the 180-room Stein Eriksen Lodge. Now welcoming fun-lovers are the family-friendly pool area, and the ski-in/ski-out Champions Club Plaza, which is perfect for après-ski lounging with two fire pits and heated walkways. The new Entertainment Center features high- and low-tech games; its casual dining space was set to open last month. The 56-seat Freestyle Movie Theatre also has debuted.
The 20-room Goldener Hirsch Inn is adding 40 residences that will be available for rent; they will be completed before the 2020 ski season.
The 4,000 square feet of meeting space at the 220-room Waldorf Astoria Park City is being expanded with the new Summit Room, and the resort's fitness center is being moved to a new location overlooking the outdoor swimming pool. Details and renderings of the projects should be available in the spring.
Improvements on the slopes at Park City Mountain include space for an additional 200 diners at Cloud Dine; a renovation of the Mid-Mountain Lodge, a 120-year-old miners' boarding house, giving it more indoor seating, an upgraded outdoor dining area and new menus; and a new beginners area called High Meadow Park.Annual Events
Aside from January's film festival, a number of yearly gatherings come to Park City, offering unique options to enhance meeting schedules.
On June 22, 2019, more than 2,500 participants will dine together on ultra-long tables on Main Street during Savor the Summit. A variety of local restaurants provide the fabulous food and drink, and live bands kick up the energy. Reservations are required through a participating restaurant.
Music lovers have numerous performances to choose from during summer's Utah Symphony/Utah Opera Deer Valley Music Festival, held Friday and Saturday nights from the end of June through August at the Deer Valley Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater. Classical isn't all that's on the program under the stars, however; jazz, classic rock, country and pop have all found their way onto the song lists in the past.
The 50th annual Park City Kimball Arts Festival takes place Aug. 2--4, 2019. Last year, 225 artists from 34 states and Canada were invited to participate. Like Savor the Summit, the event runs down Main Street. Food trucks, a beer garden and live music add to the appeal.Wellness-Wise
With all the skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, biking and golfing guests can do in town, a great massage is an essential end-of-day appointment. One of the top resorts in this category is the Stein Eriksen Lodge, whose spa features 16 treatment rooms, Vichy wet treatment rooms, couples treatment and relaxation rooms, and hot and cold plunge baths. Among the signature massage options are the Aspen Oasis scrub and body wrap, and the Ski Boot Relief.
The Serenity Spa at the Westgate Park City Resort & Spa is a 30,000-square-foot relaxation oasis with 14 treatment rooms and a menu of 50-minute to five-hour packages.
