Voters Approve Louisiana Casino

It's more "bayou" than "Bahamas," but Bossier City, La., will soon look a lot more like paradise thanks to local voters, who this month approved the construction of a new Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville casino resort in northwestern Louisiana, local newspaper the Shreveport Times reported.

According to the paper, 61 percent of Bossier Parish voters voted in favor of a ballot initiative to expand riverboat gaming to include the new 18-story resort, which will feature a single-level gaming floor with 1,275 slot machines, 38 table games and a Margaritaville bar, as well as a 400-room hotel with a two-story entertainment complex, spa and fitness center, pool and Margaritaville restaurant.

Construction on the casino — which hopes to attract gamblers to Louisiana from Dallas — will begin Jan. 1 and conclude in May 2013.
