The area around the city's convention center will be undergoing a transformation. Coming are meeting-space renovations, a headquarters hotel and a new parking deck. The upgrades, coupled with Tucson's great weather and walkable attractions, will make the city even more attractive to groups.
The Tucson Marriott University Park recently received an $18 million renovation. Upgrades were made to the 250 guest rooms, the lobby, 24,000 square feet of meeting space and dining areas.
A new hotel has been added to the Casino Del Sol, which is run by the Pascua Yaqui Tribe. The 150-room Estrella opened in November with an arcade, a 100-foot water slide, conference rooms and a 19,000-square-foot ballroom that accommodates up to 1,630 guests.
The Tucson Convention Center is scheduled to receive a $14.7 million renovation. The facility, which offers 205,000 square feet of event space, will add meeting rooms, give the 20,164-square-foot Grand Ballroom a new floor and install technology enhancements.
Meeting planners will have a new accommodations option in the city, opening by the end of the year. The six-story, 170-room DoubleTree by Hilton-Tucson Convention Center Hotel will be connected to the convention center and will offer 4,000 square feet of its own meeting space. A multilevel, 350-spot parking garage serving both the Tucson Convention Center and the DoubleTree hotel is also under construction.
