MMPI, the Chicago-based developer that's building the Cleveland Medical Mart and Convention Center, has named meetings industry veteran Brian Casey general manager of the new facility, effective May 2, 2011, it announced last week.
Casey, who has more than 30 years of experience in meetings and trade shows, has served as president and CEO of the High Point Market Authority — which organizes trade shows for the furniture industry and oversees the downtown marketplace of High Point, N.C. — since 2006. Prior to that, he was owner of Next Generation Events Group Inc., his own convention and trade show services firm, and an executive vice president for Smith Bucklin, an association management company.
As general manager of the Cleveland Medical Mart and Convention Center, Casey will be responsible for attracting trade show business to the facility; for overseeing all department functions, including construction, operations, finance and leasing; and for implementing marketing plans for the facility, its tenants and its trade shows.
"MMPI has worked with Brian Casey for years and knows firsthand his vast array of knowledge and experience in attracting and producing trade shows, while providing the highest level of customer service possible to his tenants," said MMPI Senior Vice President Mark Falanga. "Brian is an expert in the trade show and showroom business, and knows what is important to our customers. He will prove to be invaluable as we continue to successfully secure commitments from trade shows, meetings and tenants for the Cleveland Medical Mart and Convention Center."
Scheduled for completion in September 2013, the Cleveland Medical Mart and Convention Center will have approximately 100,000 square feet of permanent showrooms available for lease by medical manufacturers, as well as 230,000 square feet of exhibit space and over 92,000 square feet of meeting space, including a grand ballroom overlooking Lake Erie.
