The Tampa Convention Center in Tampa, Fla., has joined Tampa Electric's Networked Demand Response program for commercial customers. Created by the Southeast utility company to help reduce energy demand during peak periods, the program will help the Tampa Convention Center reduce its electric bill and raise its environmental profile among green meeting planners."The cleanest kilowatt-hour is the one we do not produce," Tampa Electric President Chuck Black said in a statement. "By participating in our energy efficiency programs, customers like the Tampa Convention Center are helping us conserve energy while they save on their monthly electricity costs."The purpose of the Networked Demand Response program is to reduce Tampa's energy demand in order to lower system peaks and mitigate the need to build new power plants, which tend to have large carbon footprints. As part of the program, Tampa Electric will provide the convention center with energy management data that's designed to help it not only reduce its energy consumption, but also optimize and understand it."We are very pleased to have been selected for inclusion in this environmentally friendly program," said Robert Rose, director of the Tampa Convention Center. "The energy management data will help us become more efficient in controlling our electrical usage."By participating in Tampa's Networked Demand Response program, the Tampa Convention Center has agreed to do its part to help the environment by reducing its energy consumption during peak periods with measures such as dimming lights and reducing air conditioning use. The result will be a cleaner community, as well as convention space that appeals to green companies and event planners.
