According to actress Sienna Miller, Pittsburgh is "beautiful. I came once before to visit the Andy Warhol museum whilst researching a film and found both the city and its inhabitants warm and gracious. My father is from Meadville and is in town to show me round this weekend."
Her comments follow previous statements degrading the city, where she is staying while filming "The Mysteries of Pittsburgh," based on the book of the same name by Michael Chabon.
Needless to say, Pittsburgh residents and officials were not pleased by Miller’s original statement, which was made as part of an interview with Rolling Stone magazine. Miller claims her comments were taken out of context. During the interview she said "Can you believe this is my life? Will you pity me when you're back in your funky New York apartment and I'm still in Pittsburgh? I need to get more glamorous films and stop with my indie year." Miller also referred to the city by a derogatory nickname rhyming with Pittsburgh but containing an expletive.
Prominent Pittsburgh residents took action—a local new anchor offered to show her the town and Mayor Luke Ravenstahl said "I think obviously we have a great town, and I disagree with her comments…I'm sure in her short experience here she hasn't had the opportunity to [see the city]… If she would have, I think she would have found that Pittsburgh is a great place to live."
