A storm that brought with it record rainfall, flooding and even tornados damaged the Shreveport Convention Center in Shreveport, La., last week, according to local media reports.A walkthrough on Friday, the day after the storm, revealed that the 350,000-square-foot facility sustained approximately $250,000 in damage, according to some estimates. The storm, which included tornado winds of up to 115 miles per hour, shattered at least 62 glass panels on the front of the convention center, punctured a hole into the west side of the facility's limestone façade and threw off several metal corner seals on the facility's roof, where it also flipped over several large air vents."It's a lot more than I thought ... because when we did our initial walkthrough it was dark," General Manager Sam Voisan said of the damage, speaking to local TV news station KSLA-TV.While there were no events scheduled at the Shreveport Convention Center over the weekend, the facility is hosting a four-day regional conference for 2,000 math and science teachers this week. Although repairs are continuing during the event, convention center officials said after the storm that the facility would be ready for the start of the conference on Monday."What it looks like is the weather forecast is going to give us a little relief," Voisan told KSLA-TV, "so that will give us some repair time to go ahead and take care of business."
