Construction milestones for the convention/meetings market continue in Downtown Phoenix, as workers poured 6,000 cubic yards of concrete for the foundation of the new Sheraton Downtown Phoenix Hotel recently.
The 31-story Sheraton Phoenix Downtown Hotel is owned by the City of Phoenix. It will provide 80,000 SF of meeting space, including one 30,000-SF ballroom and another almost half that size, as well as 16 meeting rooms. The hotel will also provide a 6,500-SF fitness center and spa, an outdoor pool and sundeck, as well as an underground parking garage with more than 500 spaces.
The new hotel’s presence is vital to accommodate the expanding Phoenix Convention Center (PCC), where the new, 156,000-SF Phase One West Building opened in mid-July. Phase Two will open in January, 2009 and bring the PCC to 900,000 SF.
