Successful Meetings spotlighted the Phoenix/Scottsdale area in its September issue. We spoke with Karolyn Kiburz, CMP, president of
Scottsdale-based Meetings & Concierges Source LLC, shares her tips on places to go and where to eat in the area.
What’s your favorite thing about living in Phoenix/Scottsdale?
It’s no doubt the weather, which allows for so many things to do here.
Where do you take your friends from out of town when they visit?
I try to take them to fabulous local restaurants like Barrio Café or Binkley’s. My friends also like spas — and we have the best, in my opinion. My favorites are Montelucia, [Fairmont Scottsdale] Princess and Camelback Inn. If it works out that a sports team is in town, I also like to take them to a sporting event. We have world-class sports facilities here.
What’s the best thing about holding a meeting in Phoenix/Scottsdale?
The best things about holding a meeting here are the weather; so many things to do (culture, sports, museums, etc.); incredible hotels/resorts, golf, etc.; and Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport, which has amazing access from all destinations.
What should planners be aware of when meeting in Phoenix/Scottsdale?
Even [in] summer, groups still want to come here! June is getting to be busier and busier here, and the rates aren’t cheap.
What’s your favorite restaurant in the city for groups?
This depends on the group and the size. But I like when a group can fit into a private room, such as one at Fleming’s, Dominick’s, Donovan’s, or Capital Grille.
