Merchandise Mart Properties Inc. and Cuyahoga County have chosen convention center management company SMG to manage operations of Cleveland’s new medical mart and convention center, the Global Center for Health Innovation and the Cleveland Convention Center, they announced this week.
SMG, which manages 233 facilities throughout North America — including 72 convention centers — will assume management of the facility by Nov. 15, 2013.
“SMG is delighted to partner with Cuyahoga County to manage the Cleveland Convention Center and Global Center for Health Innovation,” Gregg Caren, executive vice president of SMG Convention & Exhibition Centers, said in a statement. “The Cleveland Convention Center facility has quickly established itself as a great place to host a trade show, convention, conference or special event and has truly put Cleveland back on the map as a convention destination.”
The Cleveland Convention Center opened in July. The Global Center for Health Innovation, meanwhile — opening in three phases — held its grand opening for Phase I this week. Phase II, which is when the facility will be opened to the general public, is scheduled for February 2014, followed by Phase III in fall 2014.
