The International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) has chosen the Czech Republic’s capital city, Prague, as the site for its 56th ICCA Congress, taking place in 2017, it announced
To host the ICCA Congress, bidding destinations must address 11 different decision-making factors in their bids, from “value for money” to “ICCA business development opportunities” to “creativity.” In addition, they must hold up to scrutiny from ICCA’s discerning meeting-planner members.
“ICCA delegates are possibly the toughest clients any destination can host,” ICCA CEO Martin Sirk said in a statement. “They are seasoned professionals, notoriously difficult to surprise or impress, but I have absolutely no doubt, based on the creativity and commitment shown by the Czech team, that they will be given an unforgettable experience in 2017.”
Ultimately, Prague beat out several other finalists in the bidding competition, including the Gdansk, Poland, and St. Petersburg, Russia.
“As always, this has been another tremendously tough bidding competition between highly ambitious destinations, conducted in a wonderful ICCA spirit of friendliness and fairness, with all of the candidates showing creativity, professionalism and commitment towards ICCA’s strategic business objectives, including our keenness to further develop the association’s membership in Eastern Europe,” said ICCA President Arnaldo Nardone. “With ICCA never having previously held our Congress in the Czech Republic, I have no doubt that our friends in Prague will put on a wonderful experience for our members, and that knowledge and expertise will be transferred in both directions, from our global experts to local meetings professionals, and vice versa.”
The 53rd ICCA Congress will take place Nov. 1-5, 2014, in Antalya, Turkey. The 54th and 55th ICCA Congresses will take place in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Kuching, Malaysia, respectively, in 2015 and 2016. For more information, visit www.iccaworld.com.
