Poll Finds Airfares Worry Planners

With many airlines posting a rare quarterly profit recently, the latest MiMegasite.com poll revealed that meeting planners are quite concerned about how rising airfares will affect their destination choices.

The latest poll appearing on the home page found that 43 percent of respondents said airfares are currently a strong factor in their destination choices for meetings. Further, 40 percent of responding planners said that if airfares keep rising, they will become a strong factor in destination choices for meetings. Finally, just 15 percent said that airfares are not currently near the level that would make air costs a strong factor in their choice of meeting destinations.

With travel demand starting to slow a bit going into 2007, this might be a factor that slows down the rate of increase in airfares. Oil prices, however, still appear to be the most telling factor in air costs.

For a more detailed analysis of these and other industry trends, look for the "Outlook 2007" report that will appear in the November 27 issue of MeetingNews, and which will appear on the home page of MiMegasite.com on November 28.
