Since the start of its fiscal year in April 2012, Montrèal's convention center — Palais des congrès de Montrèal — has booked 202 events for future years, it announced last week.
Those events — which include 20 conventions, 20 exhibitions, and 162 conferences, meetings and special events — will attract more than 190,000 business tourists to Montréal and generate over $82 million in economic impact.
"We are pleased we were able to record appreciable results even as the global economy continues to falter," said Marc Tremblay, president and CEO of the Société du Palais des congrès de Montréal. "Our development and promotional efforts in the last two years are bearing fruit. America's top host city for international events — and short-listed for the APEX award for World's Best Convention Center — Montréal and the Palais are highly favorably regarded worldwide, as they continue to actively contribute to the city's development and deliver an experience you cannot find elsewhere."
