Orlando's Orange County Convention Center (OCCC) has been named one of the world's best convention centers by AIPC the International Association of Congress Centres, it announced yesterday.
The OCCC was one of 18 finalists who qualified to compete in AIPC's competition for the Apex Award, given annually to the facility that's rated as "The World's Best Congress Centre" in an evaluation conducted by an international university. This year's Apex Award winner was the Royal College of Physicians in London. The OCCC was one of three runners-up, along with the Belfast Waterfront in Belfast, United Kingdom, and the Convention Centre Dublin in Dublin, Ireland.
"It is such an honor being chosen as one of the best congress centers in the world," said OCCC Chief Financial Officer Jan Addison. "I would like to thank AIPC, our clients who assisted in this process, the OCCC team and our business partners who all demonstrate they are truly the Center of Hospitality. Going above and beyond expectations is our goal for each and every event. It is also a signal to the trade-show industry that Orlando is a leader in the convention market and will continue to be as further improvements transpire in and around the convention center."
The recognition comes during one of the most successful quarters in the history of the OCCC. According to the convention center, it already has hosted more than 77 events this year.
