The Special Event Company, a Durham, N.C.-based event and meeting management company, has won three event industry excellence awards courtesy of the International Special Events Society (ISES), which announced last month the 2008 winners of its annual Esprit Awards.
The Special Event Company, which also has offices in London, was nominated for three ISES awards—in the categories of Best Industry Innovation, Best Industry Contribution and Best Technical Production—and won two. It collected a third award separately in the name of company founder Sally Webb, who was given the Event Industry Lifetime Achievement & Outstanding Contribution Award by the European Chapter of ISES.
"Sally Webb is an inspirational figure within our industry," ISES UK President Will Broome said in a statement. "Not only is this manifested through her world class events, but Sally is also one of the few people who are truly recognized on a global scale. With a thriving business on both sides of the Atlantic, Sally is a pillar of our industry and a shining example of professionalism and success."
Stateside, Webb's company won Esprit Awards in the categories of Best Industry Contribution, for its Academic Event Professional (AEP) Conference, an annual event that caters to event planners in academia, and Best Technical Contribution, which it shares with Durham-based Maestro Productions for the launch party for the new First Citizens BancShares corporate headquarters in Raleigh, N.C., an event that featured impressive venue decor and architecture on which both organizations collaborated.
