New York Mets Team with Aramark for Non-Gameday Events

Major League Baseball's New York Mets have partnered with the team's food and beverage provider, Aramark, in order to launch Metropolitan Hospitality, a new joint venture through which they'll produce and host non-gameday events at Citi Field, the Mets' new stadium that is scheduled to open next year.

"The opening of Citi Field will provide fans an unprecedented entertainment experience," Dave Howard, the Mets' executive vice president of business operations, said in a statement. "The launch of Metropolitan Hospitality at Citi Field will create the finest and most unique destination for corporate meetings, receptions and hospitality events in New York City."

When it opens in 2009, Citi Field will feature more than 60,000 square feet of hospitality space in which to host meetings, parties, tradeshows, weddings and other events. By partnering with Aramark in order to book and manage that space—which includes individual accommodations that can hold as few as 25 people or as many as 1,500—the Mets franchise hopes to turn its stadium into a year-round destination for New York locals and visitors alike.

"Metropolitan Hospitality will create truly extraordinary experiences at Citi Field throughout the entire year," said Liza Cartmell, group president for Aramark Sports and Entertainment. "Our team is fully prepared to assist event planners in executing their clients' vision. We will create a unique and complete New York entertainment experience that will change the way guests consider venues as entertainment destinations."

The Mets announced Aramark as its exclusive food and beverage provider in June 2007 as a part of a 30-year alliance that will put the company in charge of all concessions, retail stores, kiosks, restaurants and clubs at the soon-to-open Citi Field. As a partner in Metropolitan Hospitality, it will provide groups that are meeting at the stadium with either a standard menu or a unique menu that's customized for their group and their event.
