Its flagship Marriott Marquis hotel, the New York Marriott Marquis in Times Square, has completed a $39 million renovation encompassing its guest rooms and public spaces, Marriott International announced last month.
As part of the renovation, the hotel — which has 1,946 guest rooms and over 100,000 square feet of meeting space — made over its lobby, which now includes two signature restaurants and lounges where guests can socialize, relax, eat and drink. Refurbished guest rooms, meanwhile, were updated with custom furnishings, high-definition televisions, and new carpeting and curtains; so far, more than 1,000 guest rooms have been totally redesigned, with the remainder to be completed by spring 2012.
For meeting planners, the highlight of the renovation is the hotel's new high-tech ballroom, the Broadway Ballroom, which totals 29,000 square feet and seats up to 2,400 guests. Designed to be the "ballroom of the future," it features programmable LED chandeliers and a "vanishing ceiling" in black that can be transformed in myriad ways for different occasions.
"Even though we celebrated the New York Marriott Marquis' 25th anniversary last year, it feels like a brand new hotel opening," said Mike Stengel, vice president, market general manager for Marriott International. "We still have the great staff and service our guests have come to know — but now it's in a whole new setting. Our guests are thrilled with the transformation we've undergone this past year."
