New Sheraton Opens in Stamford, Conn.

A new flagship Sheraton brand hotel has opened in downtown Stamford, Conn., where it boasts 379 guest rooms and 13,000 square feet of meeting space, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide announced this month.

Located just a few blocks from Stamford's revitalized Harbor Point area — where Starwood, currently based in White Plains, N.Y., will open its new global headquarters in early 2012 — the Sheraton Stamford Hotel is one of more than 60 new hotels and over 20,000 rooms that Starwood plans to add to the Sheraton portfolio over the next three years.

"We are excited to welcome travelers to Sheraton Stamford Hotel, just months before Starwood moves into to its new global headquarters in this bustling New York satellite city," said Hoyt Harper, senior vice president, Sheraton Hotels & Resorts. "Sheraton Stamford Hotel represents the new look of Sheraton, showcasing all the brand's signature amenities that were a focal point of our recent $6 billion revitalization effort."

Previously a Holiday Inn hotel, the property received a multi-million renovation of its lobby, restaurant and guest rooms in order to meet new Sheraton brand standards. Amenities now include a full-service restaurant and lounge, an indoor pull and a fully equipped gym.

"We are delighted to partner with Starwood on this conversion project," said John Belden, president and CEO of Davidson Hotels & Resorts, which owns the property. "The hotel boasts a great location and as a Sheraton, offers a number of competitive advantages and signature brand offerings that will enhance the guest experience. With 13,000 square feet of upgraded, state-of-the-art, special event and corporate meeting space, we're the ideal meeting and convention hotel."
