While some news reports have suggested that the worst of the BP oil spill is over, tourism professionals in the Gulf states are quick to point out that the damage has already been done. Among them are officials at the New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau, which has launched a new online newsroom designed to keep journalists informed about the oil spill, as well as the city's $5 billion tourism industry.
The new website, ThisJustInNewOrleans.com
, is designed for all media, from broadcasters to bloggers, and includes a variety of features, including video stories on timely topics, such as seafood safety, cuisine, music and cultural events; still photographs from around the city; and official press materials, including statistics and updates from New Orleans city government.
According to the CVB, "The events on the coast 100 miles from New Orleans have been tragic and have impacted everyone in the region. New Orleans continues to welcome hundreds of thousands of leisure visitors and conference attendees who enjoy the same hospitality and fun for which the city is known."
