A new, 59-room Microtel Inn & Suites has opened in Hoover, Ala., 10 miles outside of downtown Birmingham. Owned by Birmingham-based Oikon Hotels Hoover LLC, the new economy hotel features the Atlanta-based chain's award-winning prototype design, which was created last November to give the hotel brand a contemporary and streamlined look.
Each of the 59 guestrooms in the four-story Hoover Microtel—which includes single, double and suite accommodations—features an HD LCD flat-panel television with HBO and ESPN, upgraded granite countertops and desk units with built-in power and data ports, not to mention free long distance calling and free WiFi Internet access. More than that, suites also feature kitchenettes with microwaves and micro-fridges.
Common areas in the new hotel include a fitness center, an executive business center and a meeting room.
"We are proud to bring a new hotel with quality accommodations and reasonable rates to [Alabama's] growing Galleria Mall area," said Darren Nelson, Microtel's vice president of operations, in a statement. "The Microtel brand has a history of success and recognition, consistently ranked high among economy hotels."
