New Mandarin Development in Marbella, Spain

Hong Kong-based hotel chain Mandarin Oriental is announcing a new development in Marbella, Spain. Slated to open in 2010, Residences at Mandarin Oriental, a 153-room property, will be located within a protected environmental area 31 miles from Malaga on the Costa del Sol.

The development, by Las Colinas de Marbella S.A., will include 19 villas and 61 luxury residential apartments.

The hotel complex will have seven restaurants and bars and a 29,000-sf spa with 11 treatment rooms, a fitness center and a swimming pool. For meetings, Mandarin Oriental will have a grand ballroom, accommodating 250 people and a range of smaller function rooms, and two boardrooms.

The new development will be within a 45-minute drive from both Malaga and Gibraltar’s international airports.

Mandarin Oriental has more than 10,000 rooms in operation or under development in 23 countries with 16 hotels in Asia, 14 in The Americas and nine in Europe and North Africa.

The complex was designed by Spanish architect Gabriel Allende, Singapore-based LTW Design Works, and US-based Rockwell Group
