Nevada Might Allow Gambling in Hotel Rooms

Right now, Nevada law restricts gaming to casinos. If it's passed, however, a new bill in the state Legislature would allow visitors to gamble from the privacy of their hotel rooms, the Las Vegas Review Journal reported last week.

According to the paper, Assembly Bill 294 would allow Nevada resorts to expand the reach of mobile gambling devices — currently permitted only in the public areas of casinos, such as bars, restaurants and lounges — into on-premise guest rooms. The goal, according to the bill's author, Nevada Assemblyman William Horne (D-Las Vegas), is to help casinos engage younger customers, who are accustomed to using technology to get service wherever and whenever they want it.

While no one has testified in opposition to the bill, there are some concerns about underage gambling, which would apparently be addressed by requiring the users of mobile gambling devices to periodically re-enter their PIN number.

Although the bill was presented at the committee level last week, it has not yet come to a vote.
