The Mohegan Sun Exposition Center held a topping-off ceremony to celebrate its progress toward a June 2018 opening. The 240,000-square-foot, $80 million center, is more than one-third complete and to mark the occasion, leaders of Mohegan Sun and the Mohegan Tribe joined guests including Connecticut Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman to symbolically sign a steel beam.
Located near the Uncasville, CT-based Mohegan Sun's newest hotel -- the 400-room Earth Tower -- the Exposition Center will bring the resort's offerings to more than 275,000 square feet of meeting space.
The new exposition center includes a 20,000-square-foot ballroom, expansive pre-function space, a 132,000-square-foot expo hall, 15 meeting rooms, 3,600 square feet of outdoor gathering space with a wrap-around terrace, and a 1,260-square-foot executive boardroom with its own outdoor area. It is also expanding its mixed-use program with 20,000 square feet of additional entertainment tenant space.
"The Expo Center will provide Mohegan Sun with the opportunity to host some of the largest trade shows in the nation and bring in conventions we have been unable to accommodate -- the opportunities are now endless," said Ray Pineault, president and general manager of Mohegan Sun. "The new Expo Center will help solidify Mohegan Sun as not only a leading conventions destination, but the premier resort in the Northeast region that is home to the largest meetings and convention spaces between Boston and New York City."
The space will further expand the Mohegan Sun's significant offerings, including three casinos, 1,600 hotel rooms, two spas, a golf course, over 80 shops, restaurants and bars as well as three entertainment venues including a 10,000-seat arena.
This project is expected to provide free parking, loading docks, and drive-in access, as well as a 5,361-square-foot kitchen, clerestory windows, a mobile box office, free Wi-Fi, and interior finishes that recall the Mohegan Tribe's cultural history, with custom carpeting and light fixtures that reflect Native American motifs.
