Hoping to more effectively tell its story to meeting planners, the Rochester Convention & Visitors Bureau (RCVB) in Rochester, Minn., has turned to a new high-tech tool—so-called "digital business cards"—that it's distributing to prospective convention customers.
Packaged in the form of pre-loaded USB drives, the digital business cards feature videos introducing key RCVB sales staff, whose goal is to connect with meeting and convention planners using an approach that's at once more engaging and more personable than traditional sales techniques.
"We believe new technologies help provide convention and meeting planners a more three-dimensional view of Rochester," RCVB Executive Director Brad Jones said in a statement. "These tools are necessary steps toward accomplishing our long-term strategies and goals. We are no longer just a name on a card. Prospective organizers can now put faces to names, helping Rochester's team stand out from the competition."
The RCVB already utilizes several Web 2.0 tools as part of its destination marketing efforts, including, for instance, weekly YouTube videos featuring "Must-Do" weekend events and a "virtual Rochester" channel on its Web site, where the CVB broadcasts videos showcasing the city to potential visitors.
