Michigan is seeing major meetings development throughout the state. Some of the biggest news is happening in the state's biggest city, with a number of new properties.
Detroit is welcoming three new boutique properties this year: The recently opened Siren Hotel includes 106 rooms and six food-and-beverage options. The 110-room Element Detroit will be opening next month in the historic Metropolitan Building. And the 129-room Shinola Hotel promises to bring that Detroit-based brand's handcrafted approach to hospitality.
For larger-scale developments, the District Detroit, a mixed-use destination in the center of the city, is moving forward with the phase two, following the debut of Little Caesars Arena last fall.
The Suburban Collection Showplace in the city of Novi, about 30 miles northwest of Detroit, recently opened a 188,000-square-foot event center (which includes 67,000-square-feet of column-free, 40-foot-high space) to add to the existing 215,000 square feet of space. Groups of up to 8,000 attendees can now hold their gatherings in this venue, which is also home to the Michigan State Fair, Novi Pet Expo and more.
