Mexico's Moon Palace Resort Sets December Opening for New Convention Center

Fresh off a $55 million renovation, Moon Palace Golf & Spa Resort in Cancun, Mexico, will open a new convention center in December, owner Palace Resorts announced this month.

Called Moon Palace Arena, the new venue will total 140,000 square feet, comprising eight 11,000-square-foot meeting rooms, an exhibition area and foyer, an outdoor terrace, a mezzanine level with offices and boardrooms, snack areas and easily accessible loading docks.

Combined with the property’s existing meeting facilities, the resort will now be able to host groups of up to 10,000 guests at one time.

“After a banner 2013 that included the unveiling of our $55 million enhancement, Moon Palace will shine brighter than ever with the new Moon Palace Arena, and we are pleased to both meet and surpass the demands and needs of those seeking to host their meetings, exhibitions and events on property,” Palace Resorts Executive Vice President Gibran Chapur said in a statement.

The new convention center already is attracting major events, including the inaugural Mexico travel event, Tianguis Turistico, taking place there on May 7, 2014.

“Truly a testament to Moon Palace’s commitment to the industry and unmatched capabilities, we are … excited to host the official inaugural event of Tianguis Turistico in 2014 and believe the significant conference is an influential platform to keep the industry abreast of the our numerous updates, partnerships and offerings while also showcasing Moon Palace Arena during the inaugural event next May,” Chapur continued.

Located on Cancun’s South Shore, Moon Palace offers 2,400 accommodations, multiple pools, a water sports marina and a fitness center. For more information, visit
