Marriott's AC Hotels Makes New York Debut

A little bit of Spain is coming to the Big Apple, according to Marriott International, which yesterday announced the opening of its first AC Hotel in New York City.

A subsidiary of Marriott since 2011, AC Hotels was established in 1998 by Spanish hotelier Antonio Catalán, who subsequently opened more than 90 design-centric hotels in Spain, Portugal, and Italy. Today, the brand has more than 120 hotels in 15 countries and territories -- including the United States, where the new AC Hotel New York Times Square is one of nearly 40 AC Hotels by Marriott properties.

Located in Midtown Manhattan, AC Hotel New York Times Square has 290 guest rooms -- some of which have private balconies -- as well as two restaurants: an outpost of New York favorite Boqueria, which serves Spanish tapas, and Castell, a year-round rooftop lounge that will serve cocktails and shareable plates. It also boasts a 24-hour fitness center, 3,365 square feet of event space, and a convenience store featuring locally sourced items, like Hell's Kitchen Hot Sauces.

"We are so pleased to welcome AC Hotel New York Times Square to the AC Hotels family as our first New York City property, and to be able to offer visitors and locals in Manhattan a tranquil space in the heart of the city to relax, reflect, and reset," said Benoit Racle, global brand leader, AC Hotels by Marriott.

AC Hotels are notable for their unique design touches, and AC Hotel New York Times Square is no different. Featuring a combination of European architecture and New York Fashion District aesthetic, design highlights at the property include its granite-paved plaza, pleated-glass façade, double-height lobby, extensive local art collection, and large open staircase that's illuminated by a skylight shed roof.

"With the Spanish heritage of the AC Hotels by Marriott brand, our design-driven hotel brings new inspiration to the city," said General Manager Benjamin Britton. "We provide everything essential you need -- and nothing you don't -- creating a seamless, tranquil, and frictionless experience for our guests, whether they're traveling for business or leisure."

AC Hotel New York Times Square is the first of two AC Hotels that Marriott plans to open in Manhattan this year; the second is expected to open in the Financial District in late 2018.
